convert existing buildings and sites into <strong>usable BIM models<\/strong>. By combining aerial data with photogrammetry and laser scanning, an accurate digital representation of the as-built condition is created. This approach is increasingly used for renovations, extensions, and complex sites where current plans are missing or incomplete.  <\/p>\n<h2>How does Drone to BIM work?<\/h2>\n<p>Drone to BIM combines various measurement methods:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Drone surveys<\/strong> for capturing roofs, facades, and surroundings<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/topo4d.be\/en\/photogrammetry-in-land-surveying\/\"><strong>Photogrammetry<\/strong><\/a> to convert images into measurable 3D data<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/topo4d.be\/3d-laserscanning\/\"><strong>3D laser scanning<\/strong><\/a> for extra detail and accuracy where necessary<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The collected data is processed into a <strong>point cloud<\/strong>, which then serves as the basis for creating a BIM model in the desired LOD (Level of Development).<\/p>\n<h2>Why use Drone to BIM?<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Accurate as-built condition<\/strong> <br\/>Drone to BIM makes it possible to digitally capture buildings as they actually exist, without assumptions or outdated plans.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Efficiency in preparation<\/strong> <br\/>By quickly collecting large volumes of data, this method significantly shortens the preparation time for design and renovation projects.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Better visualization and coordination<\/strong> <br\/>BIM models based on measurement data ensure fewer errors in design, better coordination between parties, and higher predictability during execution.<\/p>\n<h2>Example project: Dendermonde hospital<\/h2>\n<p>As an example project, a <strong>Drone to BIM process<\/strong> was carried out for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azsintblasius.be\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dendermonde hospital<\/a>. Using drone surveys and additional laser scanning, an <strong>LOD 300 BIM model<\/strong> was constructed. <\/p>\n<p>This model served as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a reference for design and planning<\/li>\n<li>support for technical studies<\/li>\n<li>a basis for future management and maintenance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The project demonstrates how Drone to BIM can be deployed for large and complex buildings where precision is crucial.<\/p>\n<h2>When is Drone to BIM suitable?<\/h2>\n<p>Drone to BIM is particularly suitable for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>renovation and repurposing projects<\/li>\n<li>hospitals and healthcare institutions<\/li>\n<li>industrial buildings<\/li>\n<li>campuses and large sites<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For underground or water-related structures, this method is less suitable, and other measurement techniques are preferred.<\/p>\n<h2>Want to know more?<\/h2>\n<p>Would you like to know if Drone to BIM is suitable for your project or which LOD best suits your needs?
