By combining images from different viewpoints, accurate 2D maps and 3D models of terrains, buildings, and structures are created. <\/p><p>Within land surveying, photogrammetry is often used to map <strong>large areas quickly and efficiently<\/strong>, with a level of detail that was previously only achievable through intensive field work.<\/p><h2>What is photogrammetry?<\/h2><p>Photogrammetry uses cameras, often mounted on drones, to collect overlapping images. These images are then processed using software into measurable datasets, such as: <\/p><ul><li>scaled orthophotos<\/li><li>3D point clouds<\/li><li>digital terrain and elevation models<\/li><\/ul><p>\u26a0\ufe0f Important: photogrammetry works <strong>above the water surface<\/strong>.<br\/>For <strong>underwater<\/strong> measurements, <a href=\"https:\/\/topo4d.be\/en\/bathymetry\/\"><strong>bathymetry<\/strong><\/a> is used, which is a different measurement technique using sonar.<\/p><h2>The added value of photogrammetry<\/h2><h4>Accuracy and detail<\/h4><p>Photogrammetry provides highly detailed measurement data, suitable for analysis, design, and monitoring. Complex shapes and hard-to-reach areas are fully captured. <\/p><h4>Efficiency and speed<\/h4><p>Large sites or construction projects can be surveyed in a short time, keeping time on-site limited and allowing projects to progress faster.<\/p><h4>Versatile applications<\/h4><p>Photogrammetry is used for <a href=\"https:\/\/topo4d.be\/en\/drone-survey\/\">land surveys<\/a>, volume calculations, site monitoring, facade measurements, cartography, and urban planning applications, among others.<\/p><h4>Environmentally friendly<\/h4><p>The method is non-invasive and ideal for ecologically sensitive areas, as physical disruption is kept to a minimum.<\/p><h2>Photogrammetry versus other measurement techniques<\/h2><p>Photogrammetry is <strong>not always the best solution<\/strong>.
