What is a point cloud?<\/h2>

A point cloud is a digital collection of millions of measurement points in a three-dimensional space. Each point has an exact position in X, Y, and Z and, together with the other points, forms a highly detailed digital representation of an object, building, or environment. <\/p>

Because each point is measured exactly, a point cloud contains not only shape information but also correct dimensions, proportions, and positions. This makes point clouds particularly suitable for analysis, documentation, and further processing. <\/p>

How is a point cloud created via 3D laser scanning?<\/h2>

In 3D laser scanning, a scanner emits laser pulses that reflect off surfaces. The scanner measures the time the pulse takes to return and thus calculates the exact distance to each point. <\/p>
