Drone services and land surveying at remediation site in Aalst for OVAM

There, OVAM is carrying out soil remediation for the underground storage of asbestos-containing materials originating from an above-ground asbestos mound and the asbestos-containing embankment layer, naturally provided with a secure cover layer.

To store these safely, an underground containment was provided. This consists of soil mix walls. Soil mix is a vibration-free deep foundation technique that utilizes the existing soil as a raw material for creating the deep foundation elements. Ultimately, this forms a closed, continuous, and water-resistant layer up to 16 meters below ground level.

To achieve this, a Report of Subdivision was first realized for OVAM to carry out the works. For this purpose, an on-site measurement was performed, and research was conducted into the history of the parcel boundaries, among other things.

Once this was achieved, the staking out of the soil mix walls could begin.

These were staked out in various phases with a fixed offset as agreed upon with the site manager.

Using RTK drones, the contractor performed a complete drone survey which was verified using traditional methods for confirmation and, naturally, was found to be accurate.

Once the containment was completed, we were commissioned by OVAM to capture it using a suitable drone.

In the coming weeks, we plan to stake out the remaining soil mix walls for the execution of the next phase.
