Volume measurements of ballast
We regularly perform volume determinations of materials such as ballast. We carry this out on behalf of a railway contractor who needs to know the quantity of ballast stockpiled at a specific location and whether it is sufficient for a particular project.
The method used (drone, scanning, GNSS, etc.) depends on the required accuracy.
For every survey, we ask the client why the measurement is required and what the objective is. This allows us to discuss the volume determination method in consultation with the client. For example, a volume measurement with a drone is highly accurate. On the other hand, the startup costs are higher and flying is not permitted in all locations.
